Job DescriptionMustard is on the lookout for a kind, thoughtful and experienced People + HR Advisor to join our growing global team across the UK and Australia. This is a 12-month maternity cover contract reporting to our co-founders Becca + Jess. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a generalist role, takes ownership and loves making a meaningful impact.This is a hands-on, part-time maternity cover role focused on maintaining consistency, care and compliance in our day-to-day people operations. While youll be trusted to take initiative and uphold high standards, this role is not expected to drive long-term strategic change. Youll be keeping the engine running, not redesigning it.As People + HR Advisor at Mustard, youll oversee day-to-day HR operations from onboarding to offboarding and help maintain a smooth, engaging employee experience while our Head of People is on leave. Work in a generalist people role where every day is different Support a global team and help shape the employee experience across the UK and Australia Be part of a supportive values-led business where kindness is at the heart of everything we do Join a team that truly values its people and play a key role while we support one of our own through parental leaveWhat youll be doingPeople OperationsBe the first point of contact for HR-related questions, offering kind, practical support and guidance across the team.Keep employee records, HR templates and documentation accurate, up to date, and easy to access for those who need them.Manage the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding, making sure each stage is seamless, personal and well-supported.Prepare contracts, letters and documentation for new starters, promotions, contract changes and leavers always handling personal data with care and confidentiality.Support learning and development activities by coordinating requests, helping the team access the right resources, and tracking usage.Partner with Finance to help keep payroll and benefits running smoothly, sharing accurate and timely information.Keep our people tools, systems and trackers updated, so everyone has a clear view of whats happening and where to find what they need.Share important internal and legal updates with the global team, and occasionally deliver short training sessions to help everyone stay informed on relevant changes or best practices.EngagementLead Mustards twice-yearly performance review cycles, supporting the leadership team with calibration, feedback, and reward discussions.Own the annual employee engagement survey process, from planning and rollout to analysing results and helping the leadership team turn feedback into meaningful actions.Organise and support activities around key moments that reflect our values and celebrate our team, like International Womens Day or Mental Health Awareness Week.Coordinate questions and themes ahead of our quarterly global Ask the Leadership Team meetings to ensure open communication across the company.Employee RelationsHave an open-door attitude that shows you're the go-to for advice, while providing day-to-day support on employee queries with kindness, professionalism, and thoughtful HR guidanceProvide day-to-day support on employee relations queries, listening carefully and responding with kindness and professionalism.Advise leadership and managers on HR policies, employee concerns, and people-related challenges, escalating issues when necessary.Maintain confidentiality and a safe space for team members seeking advice or support.Support the leadership team in managing any complex or sensitive employee relations cases with discretion and care.Policies + ComplianceStay up to date with HR legislation and compliance requirements in both the UK and Australia.Own the maintenance and review of HR policies, procedures, and templates to ensure they are legally compliant and reflect our culture.Take responsibility for workplace health and safety across our global teams, managing risk assessments and related documentation.Ensure contract amendments and HR communications are issued promptly and accurately.RecruitmentCoordinate recruitment processes from posting roles to scheduling interviews ensuring a smooth experience for candidates, reducing admin for others, and ensuring diversity and inclusion remain top priorities throughoutWork with hiring managers to understand role requirements, write job descriptions, post vacancies, screen candidates, and coordinate interviews and offers.Oversee onboarding for new hires, gathering feedback to continuously improve the process.Support managers with probation reviews and monitoring early performance.Conduct market benchmarking to help ensure our roles remain competitive and attractive.Hello, is it you were looking for?Youve got 3-5 years of HR experience (ideally in a start-up or scale-up).Youre comfortable with the day-to-day rhythm of HR and love helping people get what they need to thrive.Youre highly organised, calm under pressure, and happy to roll up your sleeves.You have a good understanding of HR compliance and employee relations in the UK (Australia/Global experience is a bonus).You genuinely care about people you listen, communicate with empathy, and love being a trusted point of contact.Youre confident working independently, but you know when to check in or escalate.Youre tech-savvy and ideally have experience with HR platforms (we use Bright HR) and tools like Trello and Google Drive.The Important StuffHOME Hybrid workingCore hours between 11am-3pmSalary based on experience (FTE circa 38,000 -
