POSITION TITLE: WAITER / WAITRESSREPORTS TO: HEAD WAITER / CAPTAINCLASSIFICATION: HOURLYThe primary responsibilities of a Waiter/ess are to exemplify uncompromising hospitality, providing our guests with the finest food and beverages, accompanied by courteous and efficient service to guests throughout their dining experience.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESAttends mandatory pre-shift briefing (line-up) before serviceArrives to work on time for shiftEnsures that tables are set to standardsMaintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform while workingPresents menus to customers and answers questions about menu items, making recommendations upon requestInforms customers of daily specialsExplains how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methodsEnsures orders are delivered on timeEnsures food presentation is up to par before serving itServes food and/or beverages to guests; prepares and serves specialty dishes at tables if requiredAssures needs of guests are continually being met in a courteous and professional manner throughout the duration of their visitChecks with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and takes action to correct any problemsChecks customers’ personal identification in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beveragesMaintains a friendly and warm demeanor at all timesPrepares checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes, presents, accepts payment and provides change or credit card receipt. Follows appropriate accounting procedures for closing checksKeeps wait stations clean, sets up and takes down station appropriatelyRemoves dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and takes them to kitchen for cleaningMay be asked to perform side work such as the following: stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware and linensAttends mandatory food and beverage classesPerforms miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFluent English speakerHigh School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferredAt least 1-2 years of experience in a related field, preferably in hotels or restaurantsMust be able to convey information and ideas clearlyAbility to display warmth and hospitabilityFlexible and long hours sometimes requiredAbility to stand during entire shiftAbility to exert up to 25 kg of force occasionally, and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objectKnowledge of Micros or any POS system a plusKnowledge of Greek cuisine a plusApplicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, without restrictions.
