Base pay rangeWe’re looking for a qualified Legal Adviser with specialist civil litigation knowledge, to join a friendly and collaborative legal team in Companies House. You’d be working in a small team which will include 2 prosecutors, that concentrates on litigation work as well as some advisory work. The successful candidate will report to the head of the Compliance and Enforcement service. As one of our legal advisers you will: Provide high quality and accurate advice on civil litigation process and merits of cases and appeals. Give high quality, accurate and timely legal advice and guidance on a range of policy, legislative and operational matters to colleagues across Companies House. Advise policy colleagues on proposed changes to services or policies, supporting the analysis of the potential impacts on Companies House, its processes and systems as well as providing legal support to the subsequent implementation of any change. Provide input to help shape legislation that affects the operations of Companies House, working with colleagues across government. Advise on public law challenges arising from the performance of the functions carried out at Companies House, liaising with the Government Legal Department and Counsel as appropriate. • Support Companies House’s transformation agenda. Provide training and support to colleagues on relevant legal issues. Work collaboratively by building effective relationships and engaging with colleagues in Companies House and, as appropriate, officials and lawyers across government. Delegate to and support, as appropriate, the Legal Business & Change Manager and the Legal Secretary. Line management responsibilities sit with the legal advisers, rotating periodically. Take an active wider corporate role in Companies House’s Leadership Team. The work is varied, and you will be expected to be flexible as to the work and responsibilities you undertake from time to time. Person specification We are looking for an exceptional lawyer with strong intellectual and analytical skills and sound legal judgement. You must have an appreciation of legal risk and the ability to find legally sound solutions that factor in the wider context. You will be able to tailor advice so that it is appropriate and comprehensible to the audience and situation. You will be able to develop effective relationships with a range of colleagues and be committed to delivering excellent timely legal services to meet the needs of Companies House. You will need to be flexible and deal with and prioritise competing demands successfully. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we’re in the middle of a legislative programme of change that has given us significantly enhanced powers. Good quality legal advice will be needed to underpin the way forward. Applicants must be qualified to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales i.e. having completed a training contract or pupillage. We are also looking for an individual who can demonstrate: Reliable legal judgement and appreciation of legal risk. An ability to analyse complex legal issues, using all available legal resources and evidence. An ability to produce timely and fit for purpose advice. An ability to apply legal skills to new or unfamiliar areas of law.
