The role The post holder will protect and enhance the environment by effective and efficient regulation of industrial installations and waste sites. Respond safely, timely and efficiently to environmental incidents/reports and undertake appropriate investigation work. Through application of our Regulatory Principles - ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, undertake proportionate enforcement action and achieve tangible multiple benefits from our regulatory interventions. You will based in SE Waste Regulation Team in SE Operations based at St Mellons Cardiff. The team consists of Waste Regulation Officers, Ilegal Waste Enforcement Officers, Fisheries Enforcement, Hazardous Waste Regulation and Tackling Waste Crime. Your role will be primarily office based but may entail travel between different NRW locations, as well as working at partner organisations and other premises. You will also work outdoors at different sites and may be exposed to unpleasant conditions from time to time. Your role will focus on regulating permitted waste management facilities within SE Wales such as Waste Transfer stations and Metal Recycling facilities. You will also be part of a team that investigates pollution incidents and illegal waste activities, such as large scale fly-tipping. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance. Interviews will take place through Microsoft Teams Vetting checks may be required depending on the role. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 6 weeks of the closing date. What you will do Assess compliance at installations and waste sites. Take appropriate actions to collect evidence for enforcement purposes, in accordance with defined procedures. Where non-compliance is identified, recommend the most appropriate intervention option to ensure operators return to compliance as quickly as possible, with minimum environmental impact and consideration of the economic impacts. Assist in the development of medium-term regulatory strategies for regulated sites. Respond to incidents and complaints. Contribute to a positive health, safety and well-being culture.
