Student Activities Coordinator (Societies & Media)Annual Salary – £24,698 (Grade 5.2)Hours per week – 35 hours (full time)37 days’ annual leave (rising to 42 after 5 years)Thank you for your interest in the position of Student Activities Coordinator (Societies & Media).At Kent Students’ Union, student life is at the centre of everything we do. Our Student Activities team supports an active and creative community where students can explore new interests, showcase talents and celebrate cultures from around the world. In 2024/25 we have over 250 student-led sports clubs and societies with nearly 9800 members. Our groups offer something for everyone from competing in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) league to learning about cultures and finding shared interests.The post holder will have a central role within the Student Activities team with a responsibility for coaching, empowering and supporting student groups in the coordination of their activities. Working alongside other Student Activities Coordinators the post holder will be a key point of contact for our groups providing day-to-day guidance and timely support. The role has responsibility for overseeing our student media outlets, including our student newspaper, radio station and TV channel, as well as a range of other groups. The post holder will ensure these groups are supported to thrive, helping student develop their skills, and run their groups effectively.In addition to supporting a wide range of societies the post holder will also provide developmental support, assistance and in some cases leadership, of the delivery of key events throughout the year such as International Showcase, Welcome Back Fair and our Award Ceremonies.This is a dynamic role that provides the opportunity to build strong relationships with students and contribute meaningfully to their development and success. We’re looking for a collaborative team player with experience supporting volunteers, excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. This ideal candidate will bring a customer-focused approach, strong organisational skills and the confidence to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperational DutiesTo endeavour to empower student leaders, to run their groups effectively, through the provision of training, advice information and support.To work with the Vice President Sports and Societies, and the Student Activities Manager to run events throughout the year that help to showcase, network and empower, such as International Showcase and our Welcome Back Fair.To develop and maintain appropriate systems and processes for all student group operations.To ensure the health and safety of our members through the completion of training, risk assessments, safety checks, inventories, event planning, and trips list in like with Kent Students' Union’s Health and Safety Policy.To support and empower student staff in giving excellent customer service to students.
