Your Graduate Programme Our two-year programme offers you five placements across your allocated business area, complemented by a choice of placements to suit your personal development needs in core functions such as Finance, Health & Safety, People, and Procurement, enabling you to have a balanced understanding of the business. Youll gain hands-on experience, technical and leadership training, and support from mentors, managers, graduate alumni, and our Early in Careers team to support you from the day you make the decision to join us. Your Team The Environmental and Wastewater Strategy department focuses on developing skilled modellers who can build, assess, and maintain hydraulic, river flow, and water quality models. Through targeted training, team members learn to apply modelling standards, understand system functionality, and deliver high-quality outputs that meet regulatory requirements. A key part of the role involves working with complex datasetslearning how to source, validate, and manage data to ensure smooth integration into modelling processes. Team members also support technical delivery of modelling projects, including scenario testing and presenting results in clear, audience-friendly formats. These models play a crucial role in guiding operational, planning, and strategic decisions across the business. By producing accurate and timely urban drainage models, the department helps Yorkshire Water meet its environmental goals and regulatory targets. Your role: As a graduate Hydraulic Modeller, you will: Undertake structured training and development to build core competencies in hydraulic modelling, including model construction, assessment, and validation. Gain a thorough understanding of model applications and functionality, ensuring compliance with Yorkshire Waters modelling standards and technical specifications. Learn to identify, validate, and manage key data sources, supporting robust data governance and seamless data integration into modelling workflows. Support the delivery of hydraulic models across wastewater networks, river systems, and water quality assessments, contributing to a range of environmental and infrastructure projects. Assist in the technical execution of model usage and maintenance projects, developing practical skills in applying models to real-world scenarios. Learn the principles of model build, verification, maintenance, and scenario testing, and present outputs in a clear, audience-appropriate format to inform decision-making. Understand how modelling outputs inform strategic, operational, and planning decisions across the business, enhancing your ability to deliver actionable insights. Contribute to the production of wastewater, river flow, and water quality models, ensuring urban drainage models meet regulatory standards and are delivered on time and to the required quality. What youll need to be successful Degree in a relevant discipline (Maths, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Engineering) An interest in environmental issues and improving the environment for the future A desire to be able to learn and use Hydraulic calculations to understand hydraulic problems A basic knowledge of GIS Software Strong data manipulation and analytical skills, with an eye for detail.
