Senior Estimator Location: BirminghamType: Full-time, permanent, hybrid workingSalary: Up to £90,000 plus packageAbout the role We’re seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to take ownership of producing accurate, commercially competitive prime costs for tender proposals. Working closely with pre-construction teams, you’ll play a key role in shaping coordinated cost submissions on projects up to £25m.Key AccountabilitiesCompliance & QualityCarry out responsibilities in line with the Management System, policies, procedures, processes, and tools.Support ISO accreditation compliance:ISO 9001 – Quality Management SystemISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management SystemISO 14001 – Environmental Management SystemPre-ConstructionWork across a variety of tendering forms: single stage, two stage, framework, cost plan etc.Collaborate with the bid team to establish project package strategies.Collate and issue tender enquiry documents to the supply chain.Analyse supply chain returns for compliance, competitiveness, scope/interface gaps, innovation, quantification accuracy, preliminaries, and onerous terms/qualifications.Provide first principles labour, plant and material rates for traditional trades when required.Build composite rates for non-critical packages.Demonstrate understanding of M&E work content and challenge subcontractors when necessary.Participate in collaborative supply chain meetings to determine accurate scope and competitive prime costs.Provide commercial input into tenders as required.Ensure robust work package documents and subcontractor alignment.Undertake quantification checks either directly or via others.Attend final tender review and settlement meetings to present prime costs.Maintain dialogue with clients during pre-construction to reflect changing requirements.Project DeliverySupport project teams with subcontract orders.Analyse significant variances from tender for lessons learned.Establish contemporary build rates for benchmarking future opportunities.Maintain awareness of current build techniques and materials.Benchmark estimates against project feedback and market prices.People ManagementCoach and mentor Estimators and Assistants involved in bid submissions.Reporting & Continuous ImprovementMonitor progress against target costs during tender periods.Undertake projects and stay up to date with industry changes.Produce reports and statistical data as required.Share best practice, promote continuous improvement and innovation.Represent the organisation in professional, educational and social activities.Maintain knowledge of contemporary design and build techniques.Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in relevant discipline or Postgraduate Diploma (preferred)Minimum HNC or equivalent vocational experienceCSCS CardKey CompetenciesProvides clear direction and sets behavioural standardsPlans effectively and adapts to changing circumstancesMonitors and maintains quality and productivityDemonstrates financial awarenessFocuses on customer needs and satisfactionWorks productively under pressure
