Print Assistant / Machine Operator Location : Wigan, Lancashire, WN5 0LQ Salary : 30,976.06 per annum + Excellent Benefits! Contract : Full time, permanent. Our Flex division produces a range of flexible plastic films, with our site in Wigan manufacturing products for major food retailers and suppliers. We are currently looking for a Printer Assistant to join our team, to support the Lead Printer with the operation of flexographic print equipment. Reporting to the Process Manager, your key duties will include: Set up and operate print machinery safely and efficiently, keeping equipment and work areas clean, tidy and compliant with all H&S, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards. Log and clean spills immediately and operate to site standards including BRC, ISO and A2. Follow lean manufacturing practices (SMED, 5S) and take part in continuous improvement when required. Maintain press consumables and manage loading/unloading of reels and inks. Run the press during Lead Printer absences, including break cover. Identify and report non-conformities to the Lead Printer or Shift Manager. Support training of colleagues when needed. Contribute to smooth shift handovers and ensure the press is left in optimal condition. Assist with cleaning and basic maintenance of print equipment. Work collaboratively with Ink Technicians, Mounters and other teams to maintain production standards. Provide flexibility across Production, including operating other machinery such as Conversion/Slitting when required. In order to be successful in this role you should have / be: Part or fully trained Printer, preferably with flexographic experience Relevant Print NVQ Level 2 or 3 an advantage Good level of literacy and numeracy, preferably GCSE level in English and Maths Previous print experience, preferably flexographic with experience of solvent based inks Experience of Fischer Krecke 126S, 20SIX CS colour printers or BOBST printers an advantage Experience in Mounting would be an advantage Background in manufacturing, either label or packaging printing Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement techniques an advantage Considerable exposure to quality, health, safety and environmental standards and practices within a production setting Shift Pattern: The role will operate the 12-h shifts across a 2-week shift pattern: Week 1 - 4 days (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) 6am-6pm Week 2 - 3 nights (Tue, Wed, Thu) 6pm-6am Shift patterns can be subject to change, dependant on business requirements Saica is an Equal Opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
