The Role; Newham College is looking for a motivated and dynamic Sous Chef to join our Catering team at East Ham Campus. You will assist in the preparation and serving of food and beverages within the Colleges catering units, supporting the Head Chef, managing stock control, maintaining high hygiene standards, and delivering excellent customer service. Key responsibilities; Support and cover for the Head Chef as needed Ensure all health and safety forms, allergen reporting, and labelling meet required standards Maintain cleanliness, presentation, and stock levels in your area of responsibility Provide up-to-date information on menus and special offers to customers Manage the cleaning and safe use of equipment and work areas Transport catering items safely and efficiently Deliver courteous and efficient customer service Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and clean uniforms Work flexibly across different College sites as required Comply with College and statutory Food Hygiene and Health & Safety policies Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience. Qualifications: City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or equivalent (Essential) Level 2 Hygiene Certificate (Essential) Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics (Essential) Level 3 Hygiene Certificate (Desirable) Level 3 Catering Qualification (Desirable) Nutrition qualification (Desirable) Skills and Experience: Previous relevant catering experience (Essential) Experience working in a further education setting (Desirable) Strong teamwork skills (Essential) Customer service experience (Essential) Good communication and customer focus Well-organised with good timekeeping skills Ability to work within given timescales Friendly and flexible attitude Good verbal English skills Numeracy skills sufficient for handling cash transactions accurately Computer literate Good financial awareness Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education All employment offers are subject employment checks.
