They are known for being approachable, flexible and dynamic in their approach to people, projects and clients.Why This Role Has ArisenOur client currently employs approximately 40 people across the group and has clear growth plans over the next two years, supported by both organic growth and acquisition strategy.The Civil & Structural Engineering team has experienced sustained growth following strong project performance and the award of new schemes from an established and loyal client base. With a diverse and expanding pipeline of mission-critical infrastructure work, they are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to help deliver and lead projects.Why Now Is a Strong Time to JoinOur client is in a stable and financially secure position, growing steadily despite wider economic pressures. With a clear growth strategy across the group, this represents a strong opportunity from both a job security and progression perspective.The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer will work alongside Principal Engineers and Directors, leading projects with confidence and technical authority.This is a hands-on design role, requiring strong technical capability alongside client engagement and team mentoring responsibilities.Key ResponsibilitiesUndertake structural analysis and civil/structural design (or check work completed by others), predominantly to Eurocodes and other prevailing industry standardsDeliver works including bridge design, building design/refurbishment (stations, depots), railway platforms, drainage, car parks, arch viaducts and associated infrastructureOperate across the full project lifecycle, including GRIP1GRIP8 and London Underground CDS/DCC processes, and/or DMRB standardsInterface with clients and multidisciplinary teams (M&E, SISS, Architecture, Track, Signals), attending and chairing key technical meetings including IDC/IDR reviewsRespond to site callouts, making informed decisions impacting operational railway environments and public safetyProduce clear technical reports and documentation in agreed formatsProgramme and control projects, managing budgets, change controls and commercial performanceMentor and supervise graduate and junior engineers, ensuring high standards of engineering delivery and document controlAct in roles such as CRE, CEM and/or DPE/PE (subject to competence approval) and support assurance submissions to Network Rail / TOCsMaintain responsibility for quality of technical outputsSupport financial control, audits (RISQS / ISO), resource planning and business development activitiesEnsure full compliance with CDM Regulations and health 'safety requirementsWork flexibly, including occasional night working in rail environmentsMinimum CompetenciesStrong understanding of civil/structural engineering and interdisciplinary designProven technical capability in design engineering from first principlesProficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, with BIM environment experienceStrong report writing, calculation and specification skillsAbility to mentor and supervise junior engineersAppreciation of contract administration and project managementRequired ExperienceMinimum 3 years consultancy experienceProven experience in structural/civil design across rail (or highways), buildings, roads and associated infrastructureExperience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary rail projectsSite supervision and contract documentation preparation experienceBEng or BSc with MICE or MIStructE or HNC/HND with AMICEMSc/MEng desirable but not essential Salary & BenefitsCompetitive salary (DOE)Pension SchemePrivate medical insuranceLife insuranceCompany eventsNext StepsIf you are a technically strong Senior Civil / Structural Engineer with rail experience and are looking for a role where you can lead projects while contributing to the growth of a dynamic consultancy, we would welcome a confidential discussion.Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a two-stage interview process, including a technical discussion and the opportunity to meet senior leadership.All applications will be handled in strict confidence.
