You will oversee a wide range of frontline services, including grounds maintenance, street and beach cleansing, and responding to local environmental issues such as fly‑tipping.Health and safety will be central to everything you and your teams do.As an Area Officer, you will:Support and motivate multi‑skilled operational teams, ensuring they have the right training, equipment and guidance to succeed. Working to budgets and operational deadlines, you’ll also play an important role in building strong relationships with local communities, partners and elected members, and in supporting teams through ongoing change and improvement.Lead and co‑ordinate a multi‑skilled StreetScene workforce delivering grounds maintenance and cleansing servicesOversee daily operations including grounds maintenance, fly‑tipping, street and beach cleaningEnsure teams are properly resourced, trained and supported to deliver high standardsPlan workloads, manage budgets and meet operational deadlinesMotivate staff and support them through change and service improvementBuild and maintain positive relationships with communities, partners and elected membersThis is a varied role combiningpeople leadership, operational oversight and community engagement, where no two days are the same.About youYou will be anorganised, confident and inspiringleader with a strong commitment to service delivery and teamwork.A qualification toNVQ Level 3in Management or a grounds maintenance–related subjector equivalent demonstrable experienceProven experience of leading teams, managing workloads and meeting deadlinesExperience of monitoring budgets in an operational environmentStrong communication skills and the ability to work positively with a wide range of stakeholdersGood IT skills to support planning, reporting and communicationA clear understanding of health and safety in frontline service deliveryExperience in grounds maintenance or cleansing is desirable, but not essential.You must also:Be flexible to occasionally work out of hours and take part in a weekend duty rota 1 in 6Proven experience of leading operational teams, managing workloads and meeting deadlinesHold a current valid driving licence, as travel across the district in a Council vehicle is required (reasonable adjustments may be possible in line with the Equality Act)About usStreetScene is one of the Council’s most high‑profile services, operating seven days a week and making a real difference to how East Devon looks and feels.
