Job Title: Payroll Assistant Location: Manchester (Hybrid) Contract: 6 Month Contract (Inside IR35) Day Rate: 180 - 210 per day Umbrella rate About the Role We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Assistant to join a well-established payroll function within a large, complex organisation. This is a 6-month contract role to provide maternity cover, offering the opportunity to work within a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support the delivery of an accurate and timely payroll service, handling employee queries, maintaining payroll data, and supporting key administrative processes. Key Responsibilities Support the delivery of end-to-end payroll processing across a large employee base Manage and resolve payroll queries via a ticketing system, ensuring SLAs are consistently met Maintain and update employee payroll records, including starters, leavers, and changes Produce and distribute overpayment letters using mail merge Perform data validation and support payroll reconciliations Work closely with HR and Finance to investigate and resolve discrepancies Assist with payroll reporting and month-end activities Ensure all payroll processes are compliant with internal controls and legislation Contribute to process improvements and efficiencies within the payroll function Key Skills & Experience Proven experience within a payroll or finance administration role Strong understanding of payroll processes and controls Experience working with ticketing or case management systems High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong organisational and administrative skills Proficient in Microsoft Excel and confident using mail merge Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle queries effectively Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment SAP experience is desirable but not essential Candidate Profile Proactive and reliable with a strong work ethic Able to manage workload independently and prioritise effectively Comfortable working with sensitive and confidential information A team player with a flexible and adaptable approach If you're looking to bring your technical accounting expertise into a business with exciting growth ambitions and a supportive, collaborative culture, this could be your ideal next move.
