Our client, a leading developer in the UK offshore wind sector, is seeking an experienced Lead Offshore Substation HV Commissioning Engineer to support one of their flagship offshore wind projects located off the northeast coast of England. This role will be key to the delivery and successful energisation of offshore substations.Terms:Contract: 6-month initial contract, strong likelihood of extensionLocation: Offshore (North East England base, with some onshore coordination)Rate: £650–£750 per day (Outside IR35)Start: ASAPRole:As the Lead HV Commissioning Engineer, you will oversee and coordinate all HV commissioning activities for the offshore substation(s). This includes managing interfaces with the client team, OEMs, and contractors to ensure commissioning is executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards. You’ll lead the documentation, testing, and energisation phases, acting as the focal point for HV systems delivery.Responsibilities:Lead the HV commissioning team for offshore substations (66kV–400kV systems)Develop and oversee commissioning schedules, procedures, and test documentationManage interfaces between OEMs, EPC contractors, and client technical teamsEnsure all commissioning activities comply with UK HSE, electrical, and offshore standardsSupervise FATs, SATs, and on-site testing through to energisation and handoverRequirements:Proven background in HV commissioning (132kV+), ideally in offshore wind or substationsStrong leadership and coordination experience in multi-disciplinary teamsFamiliarity with systems such as transformers, GIS, protection relays, and SCADAOffshore and electrical certifications, including: GWO Basic Safety Training (BST), GWO Sea Survival, BOSIET or FOET, HV Authorisation / Senior Authorised Person (SAP), CompEx or HV Switching certificates (desirable)Excellent understanding of commissioning documentation and UK grid connection requirements
