Job Description

The key function of the Head of Fire Safety is to provide professional expertise that enables East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust (EKHUFT) and 2gether Support Solutions to achieve the highest possible standards of patient and staff fire safety. In this role you will lead the development and implementation of a positive fire safety culture, deliver a comprehensive fire safety plan, oversee audits and inspections, and report to management and committees on fire safety matters. Responsibilities Lead the delivery and development of the organisation’s Fire Safety Plan and Safety Strategy, including setting objectives and evaluating performance. Manage the Fire Safety Team, support the Associate Director of Safety, and work with the Health & Safety team to ensure effective fire safety management across the trust. Develop and maintain policies and procedures, provide strategic guidance and technical advice on fire safety issues at all sites, and support the compliance of fire safety installations with Building Regulations and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs). Undertake specific audits of fire safety systems to ensure efficient operation of firefighting equipment, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems. Complete fire risk assessments and inspections at all main hospital sites and satellite workplaces, and report findings to relevant personnel and committees. Support the Compliance Manager with fire safety data systems and analysis, and provide training needs analysis and course provision in line with HTM and Skills for Health guidance. Deliver face‑to‑face and virtual fire safety training to staff at all levels, including induction, fire warden, and management training. Co‑ordinate and review fire drills, tabletop exercises and other simulations with the Emergency Planning Team. Analyse fire signal statistics, investigate adverse fire events, conduct root‑cause analysis and recommend risk‑management options. Attend regular site‑based Safety Committee meetings and provide advice and guidance on fire safety matters. Support the Capital Projects Team and contractors on new and remediation works, ensuring fire safety requirements are integrated into projects.
