Working closely with the Managing Director and Group Director of Human Resources, the role will help shape and implement HR strategies that meet current and future business needs.You will oversee all core HR activities, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, absence management, and policy development, while ensuring compliance with employment law and best practice.Collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will drive initiatives in employee engagement, succession planning, organisational design, payroll, and reporting, promoting an employee-focused and data-driven HR approach.The role also supports Group-wide HR projects, policies, and systems, providing expert advice under the guidance of the Group Director of Human Resources.Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesTeam ManagementLead, plan, and oversee all HR service activities, providing clear direction, coaching, and leadership to the HR team.Manage performance reviews and development plans, ensuring objectives and standards are met.Support and guide the HR team in delivering high-quality advice and service to staff and managers across all HR matters.Human Resources Advice & Employment LawProvide expert HR advice and guidance to Directors, Managers, and employees on all HR policies, procedures, and employment law matters.Oversee employee relations, including absence management, disciplinary and grievance processes, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.Lead employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, analysis, and company-wide action planning.Coach managers on performance management, capability, and competency frameworks.Represent the company in complex employee relations cases and high-profile conflict resolution.Champion employee engagement and the Great Place to Work programme, driving initiatives that strengthen culture and trust.Learning & DevelopmentOversee all internal and external training and development activities.Implement effective learning and development strategies, identifying areas for improvement and supporting management capability building.Recruitment & SelectionLead recruitment and selection across the company, ensuring alignment with workforce planning and talent strategies.Work with the in-house Recruitment Advisor and HR team to manage end-to-end recruitment, induction, and onboarding.Partner with the Managing Director and Group HR Director on senior-level recruitment, including psychometric assessments and candidate feedback.Policies & ProceduresCollaborate with the Group HR team to develop, implement, and maintain up-to-date employment policies and procedures in line with legislation.Monitor employment law changes, assess risks, and ensure company policies reflect best practice and compliance.Payroll and ReportingOversee payroll, pensions, and personnel data management in line with Group guidelines.Provide HR metrics and reports to the Group HR Director and SLT, including KPIs, turnover, absence, and engagement data.Analyse workforce trends and recommend strategic actions.Support the development and improvement of the Group HR Information System.Budget ManagementManage the HR department budget, including training, occupational health, engagement, and wellbeing costs.Ensure all recruitment and training activities remain within approved budgets.Conduct salary and benefits benchmarking to support recruitment and retention strategies.People DevelopmentCoach and mentor HR team members to support their professional growth and departmental development.Maintain up-to-date HR knowledge and CIPD standards, ensuring continuous professional development.Personal SpecificationsEssential:CIPD Level 7 qualification (Masters level)Educated to degree levelMinimum 5 years experience as an HR Manager, with proven leadership of HR teamsPrevious experience in manufacturing environmentsStrong knowledge of UK employment law and regulationsStrategic HR Business Partner experienceFull understanding of managing a small payroll functionExcellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skillsStrong organisational and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectivelyProficient in Microsoft Office suite and HR Information SystemsExperienced in using HR analytics to identify and resolve issuesUnderstanding of quality standards within a manufacturing organisationLeads by example with a sustained commitment to achieving company goalsHigh emotional intelligenceDesirable:FCIPD accreditationProject Management experiencePsychometric assessments qualification (Level A/B)Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologiesAdditional Project Management qualifications
