We are seeking a proactive and experienced Lead Estates Technician to take on a supervisory role within the estates team of one of the UKs leading independent schools. With a long tradition of academic and extracurricular excellence, this prestigious school provides a unique and inspiring environment for both staff and pupils. The Role As Lead Estates Technician, you will be the working supervisor responsible for coordinating and supporting a team of estates technicians. You will help to maintain and enhance a diverse and complex school estate, including teaching facilities, sports venues, boarding houses, residential properties, and historic buildings. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will need to balance practical maintenance tasks with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring that the school environment remains safe, functional, and welcoming for pupils, staff, visitors, and the wider community. Key responsibilities include: Leading a small team of estates technicians, ensuring tasks are allocated effectively and completed to a high standard. Providing day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and support to staff, developing skills and encouraging teamwork. Monitoring performance, workload, and priorities to maintain service standards. Planned and Reactive Maintenance Overseeing and delivering maintenance across a wide range of buildings and facilities, including classrooms, boarding houses, staff housing, and sports venues. Carrying out hands-on repairs such as carpentry, plumbing, decorating, and basic electrical work. Ensuring all reactive jobs are completed in line with service level agreements (SLAs). Working with the CAFM system and helpdesk to log, track, and close jobs efficiently. Coordinating and assisting with the setup and breakdown of events, including exams, open days, concerts, and community events. Supporting logistics for major school occasions, ensuring smooth operations and professional presentation. Overseeing seasonal site tasks, such as gritting, clearing pathways, and minor road repairs. Ensuring outdoor areas are safe, clean, and fit for use throughout the year. Coordinating waste collection, recycling, and compliance with environmental standards. Maintaining tidy, safe waste management areas. This is a highly visible role where you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth running of a prestigious school estate while supporting and motivating your team. Were looking for someone with: Experience in a supervisory or team leader role within estates, facilities, or maintenance. A multi-skilled trade or facilities background (NVQ / City & Guilds desirable). Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise workloads. Confident IT skills, ideally with CAFM system experience. A proactive, team-focused approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A full driving licence (preferred). Youll be a practical problem-solver with a positive, can-do attitude, ready to combine leadership with hands-on work.
